Children of James & Mary Ann COOK

Thanks Geoff.

Marriage to Hutton 1836 Denny - dau Ann Hutton 8 in 1851 and 18 in 1861

Marriage to McMurray 1841 - 1845 ?? - dau Margaret McMurray 6 in 1851 and 16 in 1861 but in 1851 Elizabeth is Cochran ? Or is that an error for her maiden name. John McMurray 10 in 1851 is not a son.

Marriage 1853 to Joseph McFarlane

Marriage 1865 to Joseph White
Found a couple of public trees now.. Only one has the McFarlanes'. Has Elizabeth's marriages as 1836 [Hutton d. 1856] and 1865 [J White]. Has Jos' McFarlane's death as 1857.

Geoff

Thanks Geoff.

If James Hutton died 1856 then that explains no marriage to McMurray.

No baptism for Margaret McMurray.

We may not find John's arrival in NZ but I hope we can find his arrival in Vic. and/or NSW.

The Sydney Morning Herald - Sat 16 Jun 1934 p.19
MR. J. McFARLANE.
The death has been announced of Mr. John McFarlane, of Guildford, at the age of 77.
Born at Paisley, Scotland, he went to New Zealand as a young man, and later came to Sydney. ...

I found one tree with his mother as Elizabeth McMurray. No birth or death for her. Curious this has McMurray.

Only one tree so far mentions McMurray, not easy to follow..

This lady is allegedly a half sister to john Mcfarlane, mother = Elizabeth Cousland [unsure if it implies married or not]

"Margaret McMurray
1845–1887
BIRTH ABT 1845, Paisley, Renfrewshire"

Geoff

EDIT: Possibly d. in the US.

Yes, The way I read the census is that Margaret is Elizabeth's daughter but John McMurray is not a son.

Death WHITE
ELIZABETH [COUSLAND]
55
1883
573/ 772
Paisley

Age has to be out - 50 in 1871.

Can't find a birth in Stirling.

Also a sister to Margaret McMurray and emigrated to the US as did Margaret.

"Grace McMurray
1847–1915
BIRTH 1847, Paisley, Renfrewshire
DEATH 1915"

Unsure if any of this is useful

A little white lie or an error :D

Names are good though.

Geoff

I think death of Jame Hutton prevented a marriage to McMurray.

You may stop chasing those to America Geoff. :)

I'm not taking 50/50 on those 1856 births.

If no baptisms for other Cook children then the topic should be called Clara Ann Cook.

Marriage 2270/1887 THURSTON ROBERT T - COOK LILLIAN A - CANTERBURY * 9 Nov 1887 * Not CofE PR

We've done that one and could not find the parents/mother of Robert.

Marriage 3058/1890 COOK JOSEPH J W - SANDS JANE W - CENTRAL CUMBERLAND * 13 May 1890

Not CofE PR - Can't find a notice in Trove

Death 27336/1940 JENKINS JANE WEST - JAMES - CATHERINE - MARRICKVILLE * 27 Dec 1940

Not in Ryerson - Can't find a notice in Trove

No burial found at Rookwood, Waverley, South Head or Macquarie Park Cemeteries. Or Botany = ESMP.

Dave

A bit curious.

1939 NSW Electoral Roll - Parramatta - Gordon
JENKINS Jane West, 10 Bent street, home duties

Living in Roseville but death registered in Marrickville.

Picked one at random..

Rupert Cook
Baptism
Birth Date: 30 Jun 1882
Baptism Date: 3 Sep 1882
Baptism Place: St Peters, NSW
Residence Place: Parramatta
Parents = James Cook & Mary Ann Cook
Occ: Bricklayer

Geoff

I only have the 4 in my tree. Topic title can stay.

Jane West is a bit of a problem. Divorced twice.

Ok one more cemetery to check. Her parents are in Old Balmain.

Not Old Balmain.
