The earliest baptism I can find is for Jane in 1811. There is this marriage in Spofforth which is only 3 miles from Kirkby Overblow.

Thomas Wright of Kirkby Overblow and Ann Midgeley of Spofforth by Banns 24 May 1809

1861 census John was living with Mary in Shadwell working as a stone mason. Mary was recorded as mason’s wife and shopkeeper. Walter and Carmi recorded as “mason’s apprentice.” Gaunt Albert was 12 and was recorded as a carter.
1871 census John aged 56 was living with Mary in Shadwell on Shadwell Rd about two houses from the parsonage. John, Gaunt Albert and Arthur were all recorded as masons in this census.
In the 1881 census John was listed as a mason and builder. He was living in Prospect House. Mark Burnett was 23, recorded as a mason’s son. Rose Burnett was recorded as his daughter aged twenty.

*Carmi Burnett born in Shadwell was my ggreat grandfather. I am currently searching records to confirm that he died in the UK or is the Carmi Burnett 1844-1910 died in Sydney Australia, where the rest of us on that line were born.

Yes, yes thank you, DaveHam9. I have concrete and anecdotal evidence of my Pa who is buried in Macquarie Park, a grave I have visited. He is the Carmi who died in 1960, is my grandfather and my sister who was 6 at the time of his death remembers the house and the event well. My mum was born above the Motor garage that he owned on Ryde Road. Sydney roads have been renamed and redirected so much in the area that trying to connect the Carmi who died in 1910 is a little more complicated. My cousins and I have been confused. however by this 'other' Carmi, his grandfather, who in Aussie records has Sarah as his mother - we were always told it was Mary. His wife is named as Isabella Peddie on my ggrandfather's marriage certificate (which I have) the only marriage for Isabella to Carmi likely being in Ripon 1871 which fits apart from the distance. So is Sarah a badly scripted Mary or were there two Carmi's (cousins) and only one went to Australia?

I will do some more searching. Yes, the names of many roads on North Shore have changed. Parts of now Pacific Hwy were called Lane Cove road and Gordon Road.

We have two deaths for a Carmi born about the same time and seem to have no birth reg or baptism for either.

Death for one in Sydney has mother as Sarah. Is that correct or an error by informant or an error reading the image and a transcription to the index by BDM staff?

Yes to Isabella Peddie per signature on the marriage certificate of son Arthur William to Georgina Parsons in perth WA. Loch Ness is correct also with the young children in tow
