If a marriage took place in England or Wales it will be recorded on the indexes which are available free on Free BMD, but to find out if this took place in a church or registry office you would need to purchase a copy of the certificate.

Thanks for that. I must have had a "senior" moment in posting this query - having not been able to find the marriage in the indexes was just wondering if I was missing something.redf)

dont know what area you live in , but most local areas ie lancashire have there own bmds, sites for instance im doing a tree for freind and have found lots of records on this web site and it tells you if it was a church or civil wedding. sometimes you can hit lucky and get loads of free records this way. worth a try. suex
