I once salvaged a butter/cream churn. S.A. No.2.
I faithfully restored it. It had a metal liner and was like a square wooden bucket, with a spiral blade through the centre, and a handle to churn the butter. I gave it to a friend who loved it. It now sits on the verandah of her lovely old weatherboard country home, in Ned Kelly country Victoria. A more fitting home for it than my verandah.
I think your coal bucket/scuttle is lovely, and I would be interested in the meaning of the picture.It looks like a scene from very early days.
Don't worry gibbo whether it's copper or brass, you like it and that's all that matters.You didn't buy it to resell! I keep a lot of "stuff" that no one but me likes. Joan
