Coal Miner Hewer

Could someone please tell me what a "Coal Miner Hewer" is?
and on another census it states occupation as "colliery worker". Is colliery worker a miner??? thanks

After watching WDYTYA last night, the Hartley Mining disaster was in the spotlight.
Kate Humble pointed out the demise of the Liddle family as she looked at the Memorial to the tragedy.
It looks like 3 Liddle families were devestated along with the Gledson family.
Horrendous circumstances.

i remembered,you need to type in the area where the mine is or was ,i did durham and should have all the local info,they all had funny names and stuff,the lists of disasters is really sad,half of them where just kids.really good for historians as some are very well documented.suex
