I am a very mature Masters student preparing a dissertation on 'Conscientious Objection and the comparisons of Society between World Wars One and Two'. I would welcome contact from anyone with direct experience, particular family members who would have knowledge of the reasons why such a stance was taken and the attitude of society, friends, family, and employers. All information used will be duly acknowledged unless requested not to do so.

Please email me at bill.midgley@googlemail.com or contact via this forum.

Thanks

hello,
dont know if it will be any direct help, but very recently the BBC local radio service (nationaly) did a series about this and had exhibitions in open centres up and down the country. Your local station may have taken part and have a list of local contribtors and other info. If it helps, I could contact BBC radio lancashire on your behalf and see what they might be prepared to share. best wishes,
Pat

My father and my mother's uncle were both conscientious objecters in the 2nd world War. They were both Methodist local preachers and did not want to fight on religious grounds. I know my father was not supported by his father and was sent to work in the sewage works of Liverpool. My Uncle was a market gardener and was supported by his father. He continued working on the land. I believe there is a site for those looking for relatives who were objectors I presume they would welcome researchers also. I don't know the name I'm sorry but know they have collected testimonies there. Have you been to Richmond Castle where many WW1 objectors were held? Have you thought of contacting the Religious Society of Friends too?
