COOPERS in Manchester 1861

I have tried to find my grt grandfather ROBERT THOMAS COOPER who was born 3/12/1859 2 Edge Court Manchester. His mother was MARTHA COOPER,
no father mentioned on birth cert. on this census and also MARTHA on the 1851, but to no avail.

I have found him on the 1871 census living with his married sister and her husband. ALEXANDER DAKIN and MARY ANN (formerly COOPER)
They were living at 11 Seal St, Manchester.

Incidentally on ROBERT'S marriage cert. father's name ROBERT THOMAS COOPER Organ Builder[/B

On MARY ANN'S marriage cert. father's name WILLIAM COOPER. Weaver
There is a ten year gap between the two.
Why have they not agreed to the same father?
Could it be that they inventede a father for the sake of propriety?

If MARTHA COOPER was 54 on the 1871 census she would have been born around 1817/1818. I have found a MARTHA ROBERT COOPER bapt Manchester Cathedral 24 Aug 1817. I have a feeling that this might be her and she may not have married.
I have tried every form of research - the breakthrough was the 1871 census and I would love to find her prior to this. I think she probably lived in rather poor conditions, have been reading Elizabeth Gaskells MARY BARTON

I have tracked a Martha and William Cooper with daughter Mary Ann in Eagle street, but they exist in 1871 and so are not my COOPER family.

HELP !!redf)
