What is the best software for me to use, if I want to copy my family tree from Genes Reuinited onto my PC?

Is that even possible, or am I going to have to re-enter everything?

Hi

I wouldnt know how to do this but you can download a Personal Ancestral File from the FamilySearch website, although you may have to type all the names in again but I wonder if there is a way of copying from GR to a PAF file. I have a PAF file.

Hi Minden,

You would need to download a copy of any software that supports GEDCOM files. There are a few that can be downloaded free from the internet. I use Family Tree Maker to download our tree on Ancestry so my Granddaughter and I can work on the tree off line as well.

Cheers,
Jill

Genes Reunited has an import/export function. By using the export function it will email a "gedcom" file to your email address. If you go to Family Search website as previously mentioned, you can download and run the PAF5 program completely free. With this program you can then import the gedcom file which saves you having to retype everything.
There hasn't been much mention of people using PAF but this is all I use as it serves me well for what I require. So before you pay for any software, try PAF5 and see if it suits you first. You just have to register to get it.
