Well, not sure what to make of this, whilst checking Ellen's details [maiden name = CASH] I noticed..

1911
Civil Parish: Walthamstow
County: Essex
Street address: 14 Alexander Road, Walthamstow
RD: West Ham
RD No.: 188
Sub-RD: Walthamstow
ED: 6; Piece: 9680; Schedule Number: 342

Edward Cash 39 [b. Mile End. Boot repairer]
Ellen E Cash 34 [b. Bethnal Green]
Edward Cash 10 [b. Hackney]
Alfred J Cash 8 [b. Haggerston] In the Hackney/Shoreditch RD
Florence Goodall 16 servant
Jane Prior 21 boarder

Edward Sr. signs the census as CASH, so looks deliberate

[Alfred J aged 8] No obvious 'Alfred Cash' birth reg.
Births Q4 1902
Cornish Alfred John
Shoreditch
1c, 15

Thoughts/ideas most welcome

Edward Sr.

1891
Civil Parish: Bethnal Green
Ecclesiastical parish: St James the Great
Town: Bethnal Green
County: London
RD: Bethnal Green
Sub RD: Bethnal Green North
ED: 28; Piece: 263; Folio: 101; Page: 29

Edward Cornish 40 [b. Bethnal Green. Boot finisher]
Mary A Cornish 43 [b. Shoreditch]
Edward Cornish 19 [b. Mile End. Boot Laster]
Henry Cornish 14
Mary A Cornish 11

No doubt it is correct family..

There is a tree suggesting his [Edward Sr] mother is Mary Ann Viner, I haven't checked it out yet..

Thanks Geoff.

Since it is Viner and not Cash and his parents were married when Edward was born in 1872 I have no explanation for the change of name to Cash.

I've not seen a change to a wife's maiden name before.

The London Gazette doesn't record any bankruptcy and nothing re Edward Cornish in the newspapers.

In 1911 Edward & Ellen Cash/Cornish are on Alexander Rd Walthamstow and his parents Edward and Mary Ann are just round the corner on Herbert Rd living with their daughter Mary Ann Taylor. Maybe Edward (jun) wanted to distance himself from his father or the son-in-law that the father was living with?

Edward (jun) was in a 7 room house, with a servant, working on his own account. His father was a "worker", maybe worked for his son (both were boot repairer/maker).

Edward Jr. in 1901 age fits the death, the is a concern even on the image it is , though could still be an enumerator error

There is an RAF service record on FMP for Edward Henry Cornish, wife Gladys Helena Elizabeth Goodwin, marriage 19.11.27 in West Ham

birth 21 Feb 1901, Hackney, religion Baptist.
Civilian occupation Machinist,
5ft 3in, mid brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion

Joined up 9.7.20, was an aero rigger
served at various places including Egypt

Transferred to RAF reserve 29.1.27
Discharged 8.7.32
Address on termination of engagement 44 Cornwall Ave, Southall

written in red across the top of the record is Gosport underlined then some more words ripped off. This fits in with his death being in SE Hampshire.

The 1901 census that you have says born Hackney, same as this record. This must be the same man as in the census!
