Corrections

As I have been looking through the various census for rellies. I have come across some glaring errors in the transcriptions.

As I know quite a lot of the families and locations on the original entries, the A-----ry site has made it a lot easier to report errors.

So every time I see one, I put in a 'change'. Names and places mostly, and but whatever I notice I change it.

I know it's doing a commercial site's work for them, but I would appreciate any help like that as a user of the site.

One such place name error - Woolvercote, Oxford, down as Woolacombe, Devon.

So please if you see a glaring error, change it, or at least suggest a change.

And there seams to be a few different ways to spell Wolvercote as well depending where you look!!

No wonder us drivers get lost...reminds me of the time a driver i knew spent two hours looking for an Industrial estate in Newcastle upon Tyne...when he should have been in Newcastle Under Lyme!

Yes there is a place called Twerton in Somerset and Tiverton in Devon. No doubt the two names get mixed up as "IV" in Tiverton could be mistook for a "W" in a census or cert.

Hi Ben..like many places Twerton has been swallowed up...and is now part of Bath.

Don't worry when my daughter was working in Lambourne she heard the tale of a well known race horse trainer who's staff went to Bangor, Nr Anglesey looking for the race course at Bangor Upon Dee, neadles to say they missed the race.

I do but not corrections for any mistakes on the census image or any alternative eg maiden/married name.

Another member of my tree has contacted me, who is also a direct descendant of the Allen line of my tree.
He is descended directly from my Ruth Allen's grandfather, Thomas Allen 1806.

He had been having great trouble tracing his family line because of mistransciptions etc.

He finally connected the dots after I had made a correction of 'City of Birth'.
As I had a good first hand knowledge of the area, I could see this glaring, genuine mistake.
He noticed this correction, and now we have 'found' each other.

So if you see a mistake, please offer a correction. And who knows, you could end up with more rellies than you bargained with.:biggrin: :biggrin:
