Mt Grandfather was born in County Down .I am having a hard time of it .I have got back to Samuel Stevenston c1808 Blacksmith living in Ballywattock ,with 3 of
his issue marrying in Ballyblack ,but i have not got a death for him or a marriage. There is a William Stevenson belonging to the family born earlier but? Church of Ireland
There are no Samuel Stevensons in Ballywatticock in Griffiths Valuation in 1863, nor any elsewhere in Newtownards parish. That suggests he died before that. Statutory death registration only started in 1864 so, if I am correct, you won’t find a death certificate and there probably isn't a record of his death to find. (The Church of Ireland was the only denomination to routinely keep burial records but those for Newtownards were destroyed in the 1922 fire in Dublin. Nothing before the 1880s).

If Samuel was born in 1808, then he likely married c 1830 or so (and certainly before 1845). So his marriage will not be in the statutory records. Prior to 1845 you need to rely on church records. Not all churches have records pre 1845 and of those that do, many are not on-line. You would need to go to PRONI or get a researcher to do the same and look for records in churches around the Ballywatticock area.
