My father was a widower when he married my mother in1919 in carlisle,had 4 children by first marriage,his wifes name was Margaret Copeland ,both from the london area,but cannot find there marriage or any trace in the1901 census ,any help would be welcome

What is your fathers 1st name? and are we looking for a married couple on the 1901 census or seperate surnames?

my fathers first names are Thomas Alfred,however I do not know the date of his first marriage,his daughter by his first marriage was born in Wandsworth in 1902 ,but I cannot find him in the 1901 census,or any trace of his marriage,thankyou foryou help.

Cant find marriage as of yet. Have any other info about your father, when born and place, parents names and occupation, hopefully this will help to find him on the census.

my fathers first wife died in 1916 in Carlisle,he married my mother in 1919 in Carlisle,he had 4 children by his first wife,nee,Margaret Copeland,they were all bornin the London area,I cannot findany trace of him in the 1901 census,his first child was born in Wandsworth in1902,but I cannot find any trace of his first marriage,maybe theywere not married?,my fatherdied in 1940 in Carlisle,I was only 3 and my mother died in 1949 so I do not know any thing about him,

I cant find their marriage either nor can I find them on the 1901 census. Found Thomas's death and his age given makes him born abt 1886 also found Margarets death (under the surname Cowdery) making her born abt 1878.
Thomas's age dosnt seem to tie up as I cant seem to find one that matches year of birth. Found a Thomas (born abt 1881) on the 1891 census father Andrew born Hanworth Middx, mother Phoebe born Hampton Middx with other children one is called Fritz does this sound familar?. There is a birth for a Annie Phoebe Cowdery birth reg 1902 Sept 1/4 1902 Wandsworth, could this be their daughter. Did find some more births , James A Cowdery 1911 June 1/4 dist Wandsworth, Thomas William A Cowdery 1904 Mar 1/4 dist Wandsworth., Edith Cowdery 1906 Sept 1/4 dist Wandsworth.

I found that the age did,nt add up and I am certain that his birth was 1881,his fathers name was Andrew and you are right about Fritz,he was living with his parents when Annie Phoebe was born in 1902 at 15 Summerly st ,Wandsworth.he was known to us as Thomas Alfred Cowdery <alf>on his childrens birth certificates he was named Thomas,on mine and my sisters and brothers it was ThomasAlfred,in 1881 census he had a brother named Alfred,I was wondering ,if he took his brothers name after he was killed or some thing,there was an Alfred living in Wandsworth in the 1901 census,the other girls and a son wereborn in ,Winifred in 1905 in Wokingham,Alfred George 1907 in Crealock Street Wandsworth,and there was Renie who I have,nt had her perticulaars yet ,hope this is of help,ty for your asistance,

Assuming that Renie is Irene (my aunt is called Renie but her name is actually Irene).

Hi,

Running out of steam on this one. Did find this chap on the 1901 census. Thomas Cowderoy boarder age 22 born Lambeth occ general dealer (shop).
The family he is boarding with is named Bush the head of household is his employer. There is also another Thomas Cowderoy inmate born Lambeth so the 2 Thomas's could be father and son?.

Sorry if this is totally irrelevant, but I have just registered and find this very odd connection.

My family are Cowdery - originally Hampshire and London - and we married into Copeland in the sixties. Around 1900 I can trace most of my grandfather's brothers and sisters - William Lamsley/Sydney Francis/Mary Elizabeth/Edith/Eleanore Beatrice - are any of these your Cowderys?
