Is there anyone who knows any history of the crombly farm in isle of wight.
it was owned at some time by William and Caroline Lock, but I would like to know who owned it previously and if it is still around now. Any photo's available?

Regards
Jackie

I live on the Isle of Wight, so will try and help you.

I might be able to get into the Isle of Wight records office in the next few weeks and will have a look for you.

I have had a quick look on the map and cannot find anything crombly farm or heard anything about it, so it may not still be around.

What sort of time frame did William and Caroline Lock own it??

All the best,

scott

Thanks so much Scott.
There one son, Edwin was born in 1851. The farm name is cromly and not crombly. (sorry about that.) If you find any information on that family, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help.

Jackie

Hi Jackie sorry its been a while since my last reply. I havnt forgot about looking it up for you; just been really busy with university work.

I have found out that the farm still exists. Under the name of Combley Farm, near Combley Great wood.

Attached is an aerial photo of it.

Will do my best to get the the local records office soon.

All the best

scott

I have done a little more searching and found that a member of the lock family still owned it in 1911. James lock. Also there is a Robert lock in Arreton who has another farm at this time called Great Duxmore farm, which is the farm just next the Combley.

http://www.historicaldirectories.or...lly some of this helps. All the best, scott

Just look up combley farm isle of wight and there is recent photos of the farm, although it is in the back ground of a business yard. I found a pictuare from a website in England called islandweather.org or islandweather.co.uk Herer is an old photo I live in Australia and I am a descendant of the Colnett or Colenutt family that once owned the farm in 1557 by William Colnett and who passed it onto his son Barnabas Colnett later changed name to Colenutt. Hope this helps. Louise
