The Information I have on this family provided by my Mother are:

Thomas Cumming
Margaret Cumming Wife

Children:
Samual Cumming born 4 Oct 1885
Prudence Cumming
Thomas Cumming
Gertrude Cumming
Norman Cumming

Samual Cumming moved to Coventry and then to Southampton
he was married in Southampton on 28 Jul 1923.

I believe that his Brother Norman also moved to Southampton.

He was an orange man in Belfast but I believe that one of his relatives was Catholic.

Any Information would be welcome.:)

Many Thanks

I have now found a photo of Thomas Cummings Grave in My mother's photo Album it shows that he died on 25 January 1919 aged 66. He will have died in Belfast. Well it is a bit more information.

Also know that he was a bookbinder and in 1900 was living in 5 Titania Street Belfast :).

Thanks

Hi,

I have managed to find many entries for Thomas Cumming in Belfast street directories.

1890 Belfast Street Directory
Cumming, Thomas, Bookbinder, 34 Pine St

1895 Belfast Street Directory.
Cummings, Thos., Bookbinder, 52 Portallo St

1896 Belfast Street Directory.
Cummings, Thos., Bookbinder, 52 Portallo St

1897 Belfast Street Directory.
Cummings, Thos., Bookbinder, 42 London St

1900 Belfast Street Directory.
Cumming, T., Bookbinder, 5 Titania street

1907 Belfast / Ulster Street Directory
Cumming, T., bookbinder, 5 Titania Street

1910 Belfast street directory.
Cumming, Thos., book binder
5 Glendower Street Off Cregagh Road

I have also found Margaret's address in Belfast after Thomas' death.

186 Ravenhill Avenue, Belfast

Number from photo of Margaret and Sam on front path.
road name from announcement of Sam and Annie's Marriage in newspaper.

I have found the house on Google street view to compare it with the photo of my mum as a child on the path with her father.

It is interesting where you can find the clues to your families the past.

Hi Siobhan,

Thanks for that last time I looked at the Irish census Belfast hadn't been added interesting that the number shown on the transcription is 3 but that is the number of the enumeration form in the street not the house number which is 5 presumably they started on the odd side of the street and then did the even side.

Thanks for finding that for me!

I also note when looking at the form that the street should read Glendower rather than Glendowen shown on the transcription so the family hadn't moved between the 1910 street directory and the 1911 census.

I note that there is a link to send transcription errors but it only lets me change details about people and not the street name. :'(

oh well
