1853 baptism has Jesse and the death has Henry. The marriage has Jesse. The obit has "Mr. and Mrs. Henry Small... "

yep, by sounds of it Gilbert either had a mistress or wife prior to marrying Rachel - all trees have Rachel as step-mum
He was owner of slave place by 1809 according to some bit of bio I saw..
