Cyprus 1950's

My father was with the British army in Cyprus in the mid to late 1950's. He once told a story how 3 of them got separated from the rest of the troop. Two were shot and killed with Dad getting back safely.
I would like to know who the 2 who died were. If i was to obtain Dad's military records would the incident have been recorded?

Possibly, but doubtful. You'll never know until you get his records.

The incident may well have been recorded in the Regimental Diaries though. It may be worth contacting the Regiment he was in.

There is quite a lot of info for the time period you are looking at, just Google British Army, Cyprus 1950's. There is a short B&W video of that time period on YouTube.

Sorry Brian i should have updated this thread.

Mum received Dad's medal and we are waiting on his military records. Dont know how long they will take but Mum sent the papers in a few weeks ago for the records.
How much info will be on them is anyone guess but will be interesting all the same to have a read of them.

Dad's military records have turned up. Surprised they were so quick.

They dont tell us much at all. Not even a mention of the time he was in hospital. Just dates of when he joined, next of kin and the dates he went to cyprus and come back etc. There isnt any notes on the activities he was involved in besides saying he worked with the Cyprus police and his conduct was good. I will go through them again tomorrow in case i missed anything today.
