Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas regarding the origin of the surname, “Damrea”? This was the birth name of my great-great-grandmother who was born in Portsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire about 1816. She seems to have come from a seafaring family, so I suppose it could originate from anywhere!
Thanks.

Hmmm... thanks for your response. I suppose that’s very possible. It’s certainly Damrea as far back as I can ascertain from baptism, census records etc., but I suppose it could have been misheard, mistranscribed at some point. There are certainly a few census enumerators who got it wrong !
