I have two Daniel Reeves (related) both were baptised in 1778 Calne Wiltshire. The first was son of Daniel and Frances, the second was son of Daniel's brother Isaac and wife Christian. One married Betty Clifford 1800 Calne the other married Elizabeth Goodship 1794 Calne but I don't know which married who. Would it make sense that the one son of Frances Clifford would be the one to marry Betty?? Or shouldn't I assume?? And have I missed anything?? Many thanks

Amanda

The problem as I see it is that Betty is also the common name of an Elizabeth!
Can the church records throw more light!

Had a look at the marriage register but even the witnesses are on lots of other marriages - so I assume they are not family members:confused:

Had a look at the Daniel Reeves and Elizabeth Goodship 1794 and I think the year as staed is wrong!
The year at the bottom of the page looks like 1735 but on the next page year looks like 1736 and at bottom of page it is 1737
So I think the marriage year is 1734!

You are right there are too many Elizabeth and Betty Clifford's, I have another Betty Clifford who married one of my Rawlings family. But because they are born around the same time it's difficult to know which one married who??

The name Goodship is also in the family so I can't really assume any of the marriages. I have the same dozen families marrying into each other over a long period of time.

I've just seen the one in 1733 it's on FMP so that's one marriage sorted. The next question is which Daniel married Betty Clifford?? Not finding deaths for Daniel's, may be I need to look for another marriage?? Many thanks

Oh the namesake first cousin old chestnut again. I would have said to look at baptisms for children of Daniel and Betty (who wed 1800) but she may show up as Elizabeth on the baptism registers, as mentioned Betty is a pet name for Elizabeth.

I noticed Dan Reeves Snr wed Frances Clifford in 1771, same surname as Betty Clifford. May be more food for thought.

May be I should lean toward Daniel son of Daniel and Frances, because Daniel's sister Alice also married a Joseph Clifford who had a daughter Elizabeth in 1781, could it be a first cousin marriage?? :(

If they had a daughter Christian or son Isaac, that would have nailed it as the other Daniel. Seems one of them cannot be found after their baptism. Maybe one left the parish as a youngster and moved to London, and the other Daniel remained - that one being the son of Daniel and Frances.

John Dancy wed Jane Clifford in October 1799. Witnesses John Alvis and Jane Gibbs. Jane Clifford is probbaly related to Betty who wed Dan Reeves.

Yes, the 2 witnesses to Dan's 1800 marriage, John Savory and John Harris were regular witnesses - typical lol.
