Plenty candidates, Dave, but none who are born Edinburgh or Leith and in the building trade of the right age.

Barbara

Thanks Barbara. :)

That is good.

The Sydney Morning Herald - Friday 8 October 1858 p.1
MARRIAGES
On the 6th Instant, by the Rev. H. Darling, Mr. David Smith, to Catharine, second daughter of Mr. George West, both of Scotland.

Death 7700/1867 SMITH DAVID - DAVID - ALICE - RYDE

The Sydney Morning Herald - Wednesday 30 January 1867 p.1
DEATHS
On the 29th January, at Tarban Creek, DAVID SMITH, of Leith, Scotland, leaving a wife and two children to mourn their loss.

I was given his age as 41 at death and I presume that was off the death certificate.

Another one for the Migration board.

David and Catharine had three children who cannot be found at all after birth. I have no idea if they all died young, but no reg. They may all have moved from NSW.

3219/1861 SMITH DAVID L(eslie)- DAVID - CATHERINE - CHIPPENDALE
3340/1863 SMITH GRACE A(lice) - DAVID - CATHERINE - CHIPPENDALE
3353/1865 SMITH JOHN W(est) - DAVID - CATHERINE - REDFERN

Not really a trick question. :)

Just trying to see if I might have the right David in the census. Also trying to sort out a time frame before posting to Migration board. Probably have one more long-distance swimmer.

You are lucky Barbara, the LEWTON / LEAR / etc.. mob were from Gloucestershire. :2fun:

Illegitimate children born of parents both themselves illegitimate, one grandparent also. Took some sorting out.

I'm not 100% sure I have the right David in the census. Just found this. Don't know how much I should wonder about Alison/Alice. Death reg has Alice.
