Hi, I have started searching my heritage and am desperate to find out details of my paternal grand father, David Stewart. He lived at 42 Peel Street Sculcoates in 1920 with Louisa Laura Mann (nee Hales) and was a District Manager for a house purchasing company. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. John Stewart,

hi

welcome

to the forum

have you any other bits of info which may help identify him, age, birthplace, 2nd name etc, as he should be on the 1911 census.

I presume you know his address in 1920 as it is from the birth cert of W----.(Sculcoates is a district of Hull)
Louisa L Hales was married to Henry J Mann in Mar qtr 1909 in Northampton. she was 25 in 1911, with Henry 29 in Northamps. I cannot see a marriage for David to Louisa between 1911 and 1920, but the mother of W.... has a maiden name of Hales, presumably Louisa

Could this be him

1911 census
David 32 Aberdeen, (Widower married 12yrs 2 children, alive) Fisherman Engineer, Robert 11 Hull, Lily 9 Aberdeen lodging with a married lady Mrs Catherine Wright, in Grimsby

his age and birthplace a bit out but Robert may be the clue. The census was filled in by Mrs Wright, so she may have not known exact info. There are a few crossing outs as well so may indicate a little illiterate

1901
David 28 Perth Marine engineer, Annie 22 Hull Robert 3m Hull, Charlotte Godney 42 M.I.Law Hull, Sophia Godney 9 Sister, living in Newington, Sculcoates

1891
David 50, Elizabeth 20, David 18 Perth brass finisher, Whilemina 15, living Perth

1881
David 40 Leith, Whilemina 31 Perth, Elizabeth 10, David 8 Perth, Mina 6, Catherine 3, Davina 2m Perth

just for interest I looked on scots people for a marriage for Wilhelmina. I came up with Wilhelmina Fergus married David Stewart 1869 Perth. On 1861 census there is a Wilhelmina Fergus aged 11 born Perth, living Kinross, with parents Peter 35 and Elizabeth S, 41, and other children

looking at 1871 and 1881 census Wilhelmina is 31 in 1881, but it shows a wife called Bethel Anna aged 31 on 1871. I don't understand this as the first child Elizabeth was born 1870, which ties in with a marriage in 1869. Also David is a baker living at the same address in both census returns
