I am trying to determine a death date for my uncle, John Thomas Templeton. He was born in Minnigaff, Kirkcudbrightshire (Scotland) in 1912, married Phyllis Kirkham in 1941 in Sheffield. They were still together in the mid 50's, then separated. I believe that "Tommy" stayed in the Sheffield area as my aunt said he sometimes "dropped by"...She also indicated when I visited her in the 80's that he had died...but I cannot find any record of it...I also do not know if they divorced or were just estranged...
I only wish I had asked her more questions when she was alive!

Hi Katiemay,

The nearest I could find on the death index for 1984-2005 are:-

Death Registration Nov '86
John Templeton
DOB 7 Apr 1911
District Leeds
County Yorkshire

Death Registration Sept '88
John Templeton
DOB 13 Jul 1915
Distrcit Dewsbury
County Yorkshire

This is a transcribed index, I havn't look through the death index images before this.

Thanks very much. I know the Dewsbury one is not my uncle. I think that my uncle died before 1982 but I will double check on the Leeds death.
Again, I appreciate your efforts on my behalf!

Hi Katie..dont want to throw a spanner in your works..seing how difficult it seems to be getting his death record,is there a chance he is alive still...would be 97 i know but people are living alot longer now!...was it definate when your auntie informed you he had passed on....sometimes we are told things just to keep the peace!...ime probably wrong but it seems strange you cant get a record of death when its relatively recent...regards Lee.

Thanks, Lee:
A good suggestion - intriguing anyway...
I thought of it, too, when I saw that the oldest World War I veteran had died at 111 years of age!
Don't know how I'd locate him if he was alive...but I'll consider some options.
Although Uncle Tommy was born in Scotland, he moved to Yorkshire at the beginning of World War II and, as far as I know, lived out his life in the Sheffield area.
Again, thanks.
Katie
