I am trying to find the death date of Elsie Leonora GILKES her birth was registered in Banbury Dec Q 1897. She was alive in 1960 in Yardley Birmingham when visited by a sister, she never married as far as I know and I have been unable to trace her death so far.
Thanks

Hi Steve,
Gosh that was quick:eek:
I had seen that marriage to Sam STURDY in 1945 but then couldn't find the death of Elsie with that surname, she was always known as Great Aunt Else, the spinster from Birmingham and when my sister visited in 1960ish she was on her own, no mention of a husband. I haven't found an entry for his death either, perhaps he died before 1960. I think I will have to get the marriage certificate to confirm its her, should show as her fathers name was John Hayes Gilkes.
Many thanks for your help and fast reply.
Regards
Owen

Hi Owen,

This is a best guesstimate.:)

I have been trying to find Sams death, but there is a slim possibility that he is still alive, hopefully.

As usual, certs may provide the answers. Let us know how you get on.:)

Hi Steve
Thanks, that was my thought.
I will let you know,
I have found a Sam E Sturdy born about 1884 aged 17 in Aston Warwicks from the 1901 Census and in the 1911 Census there is a listing of ELSTON STURDY Sam born 1884 in Solihull District.
Gosh it still gets so confusing.
Thanks again

Owen

Hi
Have just received the marriage certificate and can confirm that this is my Elsie Gilkes, they married 18th June 1945 at Birmingham Register Office. Sam Sturdy was a widower at the time of marriage and was 62 years. I still cannot find his death, on the 1911 census his surname is shown as ELSTON-STURDY Sam aged 27 years from Aston Birmingham. Don't know if you could help further. Just wanted to update you and say thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Regards
Owen:)

Hi Steve

Thank you so much for looking into this for me.
In the 1911 census Sam's wife is shown as Edith, her surname was WILTSHIRE as her mother was a visitor at the time of the census. They had two children at that time and have found another 2 later on.

In the 1901 census Sam is shown living with his uncle Harry STURDY which is the name he gives as his father at the time of his marriage to my Great Aunt Elsie Gilkes.
I will do some more work.
Once again many thanks
Regards
Owen:)
