Sorry more questions:

If you delete your attachments in your personal storage area, does that delete the picture in the post that you put it in ?

Yes. The image is cut down in size by the software to conserve resources and only saved in one place.

For larger images at better (original) resolution the option exists to paste the URL to the image held on some other server, eg. photobucket, ...
