Hello there,

Firstly thank you everyone who welcomed me to the site.

Now to the question....how can I find out if my grandmother had a divorce in the early 1930's?

I know she married in 1926 for the second time after her first husband died but she had a third marriage in 1934. I have found out her 2nd husband died in 1965 and her 3rd in 1952. On her 3rd marriage certificate it says she is a widow, which would technically be true as she was a widow from her first marriage.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Hi Brumsteve

It is always worth checking the National Archive Site, Go to Search the Archives then the Catalogue.

Search the Catalogue and in Word or Phrase put the surname and in the series code put J77 - this is the reference for divorce upto about 1938 or so held in the supreme court.

If the name comes up you can request (pay for) a copy of the papers.
