Dixon 1842

I am trying to find information on William Wallace Dixon born in Dublin in 1842
I cannot find him or his mother and father in the census records.
I cannot find when he came to Australia but he married Catherine Hanly in 1871 at Nundle NSW Australia, they had 10 children from 1872 to 1894,he died in 1904
Any info will help Thank you.

As for passenger lists there are heaps of William Dixon's. Not all passenger lists are online, some passenger lists havent survived and also if he paid his own fare out here [unassisted] you may have less chance again of finding him on a list.

A lot of people who settled in NSW come into Australia through VIC. Have you checked the passenger lists for VIC? I also have found some people that come to NSW via Tasmania.

There are quite a number of trees on this one, most have similar information. The main difference is William's early years, they have his father, William b. abt 1806 Scotland others have William Jr. b. abt 1842 Dublin and nothing validated..

William Francis may well be interesting and coupled with William and Hanly is even more interesting. gibbo's point in post #4 highlights the importance of family naming patterns. Francis Hanly is named as Catherine's father in some trees, this doesn't necessarily mean it is correct, but it is more than coincidental, possibly something to work from
