Hi Sweetlady,

If you've got 'google earth' a lot of these streets remain intact.
If you haven't got 'google earth', it could be worthwhile downloading it. It's free.

Fitters Row was in the east end of Sunderland, there was a weaving factory
there also,it was an impoverished area and quite a lot of irish familys lived
around that area.My g. g. Grandfather was living in No2 Fitters Row in
!866, he could have been lodging with another family there,he originated from Co Sligo,Ireland. There was also a huge amount of shipbuilding in Sunderland
at the time.

RegardS John

Hi, here goes hopefully can fill a a few gaps.
29 california was probably a row of pit houses as shotton is actually ,shotton colliery and is still there today, just a small place, could poss still be there its next to easington and horden all prev colliery towns.marine terrace in hartlepool where i live is still there i think, but not sure if in the old part called the headland or west were we live,we are on the coast so everythings called marine.shiney row is the same a pit town, nearer to durham than shotton, and houghton le spring the same nearer to durham, than hartlepool.should have no probs getting local maps,or again google earth,if you get stuck get back to me and will dig my local maps out, just am of on hols tomoz.suex
