One interesting snippet, Ellie is that in a book on the history of Greenlaw, a James Davidson was the last schoolteacher of the Free School before it merged with the public school in 1876 He then became a minister of the Free Church at North Berwick.

Just wondered with occupation often running in families.

Ebenezer was a grocer in the 1841 census, he had changed from a schoolmaster but take it his son is now the schoolmaster.

I have found an Isabella Cossar buried in Duns, Berwickshire, the wife of Ebenezer Davidson. She died in Edinburgh in 1871 but looking at them on the census, her husband is Ebenezer Davidson born 1834 England and a grocer. Is this a grandchild of your Ebenezer married to a Berwickshire lady?

Hi Barbara ,the Grocer one is a mistake, although I should think there is a connection somewhere.

Edit-http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb....mi/index4.html

Has the MI's for Ebenezer and Margaret plus other family members.

Thanks Dave, sure Ellie will be on soon. Don't know if she means the 1841 is an error or the grandson I found in the 1871. Will wait patiently.:)

The 1841 Census with Margaret born 1756 with George is a mistake,as I forgot Ebenezer was still living in 1841 Census. The correct one I posted after that.

But he is in Norham and he is a grocer living with Mgt so what is the mistake?

sorry Ellie, don't think my brain is firing on all cylinders this morning. Can you explain.

At the archives tomorrow I will look at our Presbyterian church records for Northumberland in the hope of finding Ebenezer's birth. Don't think there is much else I can do unless you can think of anything.

Yes, so I use genuki a lot and think it is wonderful. I have seen the grave but why is there an error in the census. Do you agree he is a grocer in 1841 but was previously the schoolmaster and then passed that to his son George?

NON CONFORMIST REGISTERS
Presbyterianism was very strong in North Northumberland because of its proximity to Scotland. The Record Office has baptism registers for a number of Presbyterian churches in the area, many of which have been transcribed and are not indexed on the “IGI”.

Most of the North Northumberland area was covered by the Berwick-upon-Tweed / Lowick Methodist Circuit for which baptism registers and other records are available from approximately 1838 to 1932.
Roman Catholic registers of baptisms, marriages and burials are available for St Cuthbert and Our Lady Roman Catholic Church in Berwick from the early 19th century. Transcripts of registers for Haggerston, Lowick and Wooler are also available

Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office

Like me it could be a matter of waiting till they come on line. I am still waiting for early 1700's records coming online for Yorkshire R C

I looked at our Presbyterian records for Northumberland and found no trace of Ebenezer. We have the Spittal ones and the various Berwick upon Tweed churches on fiche.

You would be better contacting the Berwick upon Tweed record office and ask them to do a look up for you.
