Ebenezer Eleazer Cornish & Mary Ann

This hasn't been a straight forward search for me and I'm really hoping someone can help. I'm looking for the marriage of Ebenezer Eleazer Cornish b. 8th December 1832 and Mary Ann ??? born abt. 1831 both of Devon, England.

They had at least one daughter named Mary Ann Luge Cornish born in 1858 Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. I have no idea where the name Luge came from.

I found Ebenezer in 1841, 1851 and in 1861, in this his name is misspelt but not that of his wife and daughter. His wife Mary Ann died in 1913 prior to that date she was living with her daughter and family in 1911.

I can't find Ebenezer after 1861 and there doesn't seem to be a death record for him.

Can anyone help please? Thank you.

Well Rupert there's a turn up for the books or should I say records! Yes, I can confirm his parents were John Cornish and Mary Ann ?? (Cook).

Mary Ann or Annie certainly had to go through it for the sake of a small sum of maintenance. But I suppose back then it was a large sum of money and would make all the difference to the survival of both her and her children.

And then he turns up in Australia, well, well. Can you say when he arrived there? I clearly have more searches to do.

The birth of daughter in Victoria is interesting, fits age to the Elizabeth coming out in 1875.
So were Ebenezer & Selina out here before 1866, returned to the U.K then came back out in 1875.

All this is very interesting Rupert. If daughter Elizabeth was born in Australia why does the Victoria inward passenger lists 1839-1923
state nationality as English? Do you know what happened to daughter Elizabeth?

The other point is that if he married Selina Meredith in England was he a Bigamist??

Wife, Anne (Mary Ann) is a widow in 1881 living with her married daughter.

On other census Anne is described as married or widowed. Would she have been officially divorced?

This story is full of intrigue.

Divorce ? NO.
Bigamist ? Haven't found a CORNISH / MEREDITH marriage. Death certificate would tell you how many years married.
Daughter 1944 death states she was born in Carlton, VIC. age 78 (born c 1866)
Can't find an arrival to VIC before 1866 (did they travel under another name?)
So why return to the UK after 1866 and come back to VIC in 1875.? Interesting.

Rupert many thanks. You've been a great help to me and finding cousins I didn't know I had.

Perhaps Selina and Ebenezer never married but he certainly married twice in Australia to Mary Jane Pilter in 1881 and then Agnes Anderson Smith in 1901, while his first wife Anne lived in the UK.

Today, I've been researching Roy Cutler son of Elizabeth Cornish and Charles Cutler and discovered a great deal about him including photos of him in WW1. He fought in Gallipoli - Roy Cutler Brig MBE, MC, MID

I have searched for a birth of son Richard Westropp Cutler and could find nothing in bmd. However, I did find some small reference to Roy V. Cutler travelling from his residence in Gibraltar in about 1932. It might be where Richard was born, only a guess though.
