Thanks gibbo.

ToL 1840

CP 1848 That's a long wait.

One day I might check out the NSW Archives films on convicts. I've avoided doing it for 5 years because I know they will be very difficult to read.

At least 6 convict ships with the name 'Eliza' so better check if only one arrived in 1832.

The one in 1832 was the 6th so it should be Eliza (6) in the records.

Embarked 199 men (1 re-landed)
Voyage 119 days
Deaths 2
Surgeon's Journal: yes
Tons: 538
Previous vessel: Clyde arrived 27 August 1832
Next vessel: Planter arrived 15 October 1832
John S. Groves
Surgeon Superintendent Thomas Bell

... there is no indication in the indents as to where the men were assigned on arrival.

He married in 1843 so something looks wrong with the 1848 date so long after he was granted the ToL in 1840.

Probably his death but I can't find anything to confirm.

Death 5391/1877 NAUGHTON EDWARD - ANTHONY DIED GOULBURN GOULBURN * 24 Jul

Thanks Geoff.

1847 or 1848 still a long time after the ToL and the marriage. He must have done something to delay the CP for 1847 and again for 1848. Different pardon numbers:

Edward/Edmond Naughton
Pardon Date: 1847
Pardon Place: Sydney, NSW
Vessel Name: Eliza 6
Record Type: Conditional
Pardon Number: 834

NAUGHTON Edward - Eliza 1832 48/1681 1 Sep 1848 Conditional Pardon [4/4460; Reel 788 Page 471-472]
