I just want to know why I cannot find my Grandfather's service records.
He enlisted 1916 ( we think) and when Gran wrote to him she addressed him as "Gunner" Bland, and apparently he served with the Heavy?? Artillery, or maybe the Horse Artillery?? By the end of the war he was an officer's batman.
I have searched everywhere I can think of with no luck. Apparently some records were destroyed during WW2. If anyone can suggest where else I might look....thanks

thanks for that Dave. It could very well be him. I have his service number now. 70553, and he did go to France in 1916. BUT...He got married in Croydon in 1918! So now I'm wondering if it's another Bland. Poo! One step forward etc..
