Hi Gwen

It would appear then there is two John MESSHAM’s born c1882. The problem is I can’t find your John MESSHAM born c1882 with his parents Edward & Elizabeth in 1891 & 1901.
Have you found the family in 1891/1901.?

I went back through the census to see who John Messham (father) 1856 & John Messham (son) 1882 were connected to. This is his line.

Edward MESSHAM & Elizabeth (unknown) had a son John MESSHAM b. 1856 Hawarden, Flintshire, he married Elizabeth HOLLINS 1875 Wrexham, Denbighshire.
John & Elizabeth had a son John MESSHAM c1882, Bickley.

This is your line.

William MESSHAM & Hannah POWELL had a son Edward MESSHAM c1856 Hawarden, Flintshire who married Elizabeth (unknown).
Edward & Elizabeth had a son John MESSHAM c1882, Bickley.

Will take another look for them in 1891/1901.

cheers

Hi Crankypants.

Thankyou so much for your kind help and patience, I have gone back to the drawing board as it were and got out Grahams (my other Half) grand parents marriage Cirtificate and realized I had misread the age redf) redf) for John William Messham, the marriage date was 12th April 1913, and his age was 28 years, the address given for John was Rosslyn, Hawarden road, Caergwerlie, Flintshire, Wales and looking at the fathers name it looks like Eawara Messham but I think it is Edward badley written Profession General Labourer, Johns Profession Colliery Hostler, If I can work out the correct Certificate to send for I will send for the birth Cirtificate for John to get His mum and dads names, By the way the wedding took place at the Zion Chapel, Pen-Y-Fford, Hope, in the District of Hawarden, in the County of Flint.

I have searched for Johns Birth reg. all afternoon, I think the Year should be 1885? but can find no likly candidates.

All Help is appreciated.

Gwen :)

Hello G,

Very new to all this. Also searching Messhams in Buckley, and there abouts.

I have got as far back as my great great grandfather in the 1881 census. He was William, born 1856 in Birkenhead. Then nothing.
1st wife Elizabeth (b.1855) dead by 1891, 2nd wife Mary (1864).
Elizabeth's second child Thomas John (b.1876) was my great grandfather. Not sure if this helps us link up somewhere. Just hoping some of your dead ends may open up mine with William in Birkenhead, that's all I know.

Actually - is there anything more on line before the 1881 census?

Hi Rachel

welcome to the forum

Not sure of the birthplace of your William as he is on 1881 as born Birkenhead, but on 1891 and 1901 as Buckley, Flint.

The family seemed to live at Lane End, Pentrobin, Hewarden.
I think he married Elizabeth Lamb o/d 1976 Holywell ref 11b 426. She died 1887 so William married mary Ann Griffiths Dec qtr 1890 Holywell ref 11b 470.

I can't find William pre marriage but there is a family living at Hewarden at the time he was born. I wonder if he had a 2nd name which he was known by before his wedding, eg Edward.

Hi Rachel,

I have my tree on ancestry so if you pm me your e-mail I can give you access, there were a few messham families around the Buckley area. My Mother in Law was a Messham
