Thanks gibbo. :)

That's an interesting tangent.

On 12 September 1857 he died of dropsy at his residence in York Street, survived by his third wife Eliza, née Smith, whom he had married at Scots Church on 14 July 1854, and by two sons. With Archbishop Polding leading the procession he was buried in the old cemetery; his remains were transferred about 1900 to the Anglican section of Rookwood.

If this is junior age is a bit out:

Death 819/1872 NICHOLS GEORGE R AGE 32 YEARS DIED SYDNEY SYDNEY

That can't be the right death.

Windsor and Richmond Gazette (NSW : 1888 - 1954) - Friday 14 August 1925 p.12
... Charles Henry Jacob Rose, who married Miss Rose Nichols. ...
This Mrs. Rose Rose was a daughter of George Robert Nichols (I.) a solicitor who was a son of Australia's first postmaster, Isaac Nichols. A son of the above, G. R. Nichols, was a clever and capable writer on "Early Australian History", and lived for many years, until his death, at Llandilo near St. Marys.

Nepean Times (Penrith, NSW : 1882 - 1962) - Saturday 12 October 1918 p.2
Deaths
George Robert Nichols.
The death occurred on Wednesday last, at
the Nepean Cottage Hospital, Penrith, of Mr.
George Robert Nichols, Llandilo, at the age
of 64 years. Further particulars next week.

That does not add up. Born 1838 died 1918 aged 64 ???

Something is very wrong. This is the reg but parents don't match:

16922/1918 NICHOLS GEORGE R - CHARLES - SARAH - PENRITH

Baptism V1855125 144/1855 NICHOLS GEORGE R - CHARLES H - SARAH

V1853510 39C/1853 ROSE CHARLES H J - NICHOLLS ROSANNA R CQ

Where is the birth/baptism of this Rose/Rosanna ?

It still does not add up:

The Maitland Mercury & Hunter River General Advertiser (NSW : 1843 - 1893) - Thursday 2 December 1886 p.4
LOCAL NEWS
LECTURE ON PROTECTION AT MORTETH.-Mr.
Thos. Rose, who is to deliver a lecture on protection
to native industry, at Morpeth, next Thursday
evening, is a grandson of the late George Robert
Nichols
, who was a native of the colony, and once
represented the Northumberland boroughs. As a
lawyer G.R. Nichols was one of the first of his day;
and as we are informed the grandson inherits his
eloquence, no doubt the audience will have an
intellectual treat.

That's the one born 1809.

Yes, Geoff.

Burial V18382231 22/1838 NICHOLS G R - INFANT

There is more than one George Robert NICHOLS besides the one born 1838 in NSW.

It would seem that the son of the solicitor is being confused with one of the others.

Survived by 3rd wife and 2 sons. Impossible for there to be a daughter Rose/Rosanna and for a grandson to be a Thomas ROSE.

More than one article in the newspaper is incorrect in connecting people to GRN the solicitor.

Still don't know when son born 1838 died.

Death 1377/1914 ROSE ROSANNA R - GEORGE R - ELIZABETH - PETERSHAM

I can find no birth reg. If that is a daughter of George the solicitor (son of Isaac the convict) and his first wife Eliza BOGGS then it's the only one of his children with no reg and one that is not mentioned as being alive at his death in 1857. And one that a tree clains was born in Parramatta when Georgiana Eliza was baptised at St James in Sydney in 1832. He didn't live in Parramatta. They lived in Castlereagh street in Sydney.
