Thanks Ellie but the '-' is there to separate the name and the District = Redfern

No mother's maiden names in NSW death index - they are included on Qld. and Vic. index. Different things in different states with very different cut-off periods.


I should have said it was a NSW death.

Nothing in Oz forEliza's birth around 1836 on A.. in UK has a couple of possibles parents - William & Eliza

they has a son - Birth - NICHOLS EDWARD G H 2170/1855 V18552170 42A - GEORGE R – ELIZA

George Robert Nichols married 1st 1831 to Eliza Bogg – she died 1835 – had Georgiana Elizabeth 1832 – 1921 – m William Lovel Babcock 1849 NZ
1849/200 Georgiana Eliza Nichols to William Badcock

George married 2nd 1837 to Susannah E Barnes – she died 1846

George married 3rd 1854 to Eliza Smith – they had son Edward George H Nichols in 1855 - 1859,
father George died 1857 and Eliza in 1863

George Henry Nichols, about four years old, son of the late Mr. George Robert Nichols, as briefly noted per telegraph in your last, has been burnt to death. The poor little follow was put to bed by the servant girl on Monday night, and a lighted candle was placed in a basin on the floor, as usual, when he is supposed to have got up to shut the door, and the candle to have caught his night-dress, for in a minute his screams were heard, and he was found enveloped in flames. He died next morning.
