Samuel not born in county and is a Frame WK

I believe this is Elizabeth but can't prove it to you and no idea why she was using her mother's maiden name when she married.

Barbara
We will see if Robert agrees, Amanda! Glad you do

Barbara
oh i do agree it looks very interesting, not sure though why they used the mothers maiden name and not the fathers.... the birth of george does list her as 'clifford'.

in fact, looks likely :)

thank you very muchly guys... :)

Do you have all the birth certificates of Edwin and Elizabeth's children?

Just saying - as once I solved a difficult ancestor due to her husband registering only one of his 6 children (his wife registered the rest) and he gave his wife's name as different to the surname she married under and the surname she said was her father's name. I then found out she was illegitimate but pretended her father had the same name as her.

Not the same for your ancestor but there might be a clue there somewhere?

Where does the Vickers come from, Robert, do you know?
YES! ..... vickers was elizabeths grandmothers maiden name.

elizabeths parents samuel and ann, anns parents were richard and catherine, they married in spondon in 1794, richard clifford and catherine vickers.

that now confirms the line many thanks for that!

now samuel foulds! lol

Looks like Elizabeth was baptised after all:

Name: Elizth Folds
Baptism Date: 22 Apr 1827
Baptism Place: Spondon, Spondon, Derbyshire, England
Father: Saml Folds
Mother: Anne Folds
FHL Film Number: 2082243

Strange, I couldn't find any other children baptised except this one:

Name: Fanny Folds
Baptism Date: 21 Dec 1828
Baptism Place: Spondon, Spondon, Derbyshire, England
Father: Robt Folds
Mother: Anne Folds
FHL Film Number: 2082243

I wonder if this should be Samuel ??

Could well be Amanda as can't find a marriage for a Robert to an Ann but we are only seeing transcriptions so we can't be sure. Can't find the originals anywhere.

Where are you looking for the baptism, Robert?

Barbara
site or location?...

i use the igi and find my past. all this is local to me so i know where the locations are and how likely they are to be 'right'.

i got back to 1560 on the vickers line :)

cant find anything out about samuel foulds.... more investigation needed but im running out of time - im preparing this for my mum for crimbo day. of course itll carry on after but ive my paternal line to investigate too.

Looks like Elizabeth was baptised after all:

Name: Elizth Folds
Baptism Date: 22 Apr 1827
Baptism Place: Spondon, Spondon, Derbyshire, England
Father: Saml Folds
Mother: Anne Folds
FHL Film Number: 2082243

Father: Robt Folds
Mother: Anne Folds
FHL Film Number: 2082243

I wonder if this should be Samuel ??

Amanda
hmmmm ..... or is 'robert' his real name?..lol.. im happy with it being a mistake, everything else fits, including the 1841 census where they lived in derby - samuel - ann - elizabeth - fanny - maria - edward - eli - catherine with george and emali by 51.

ive found a string of children by them, but im only interested in the main line of elizabeth atm.

So if it is local, can you look at the originals at an archive? Or is that too far away.

You might get all kinds of extra info.

Barbara
the derby office isnt far, but a pain to park, they dont hold as many records as the matlock office which is a way to go just for a few bits.

ive got the cliffords back to the mid 1600's plus several spouses lines too. ive about run out now without wishing to look too far - im most happy with what ive got so far. :)

i think this samuel foulds will be a mystery like my james howe, neither seem traceable before their marriages.
