I'm looking for the correct baptism for Elizabeth Harris b 1733 Wingfield Wiltshire. I think she was actually baptised just up the road at Bradford on Avon and this is my predicament. I can't tell if she was recorded twice or there is more than one Thomas with a daughter Elizabeth being baptised twice??

There are various recordings one 2nd September 1733 father Thomas one 10th October 1733 father Thomas mother Catherine there are two sons baptised after this.
Another recording has the one on the 2nd September father Thomas mother Elizabeth no other children. I can't find any baby deaths at the time so am I looking at two Elizabeth's or one?? A pic of the baptisms: Elizabeth Harris baptism 1733.jpg

The Wilts FHS Baptism Index has both the Elizabeth Harris baptisms down as taking place in Bradford on Avon and both baptisms give the parents as Thomas and Catherine. Not sure where they get the Catherine from. The entry just says Parish Baptisms so not sure if that is the PR entry or the BTs.

How many marriages can you find for Thomas Harris to a Catherine?

As we see above both baptisms just say Thomas, but it doesn't tell me what the source is

I haven't found any ,arriages to Catherine and only one to an Elizabeth in Ramsbury, not exactly up the road, but it could be them. The only marriages I've found in the area are to Mary's so frustrating sometimes

What you say in post #1 is correct, though the Wilts FHS has this [if you haven't seen it]..

"2 Sep HARRIS Elizabeth d Thomas & Elizabeth [entered on facing page]"

That must must be a reference to the Original PR book or BT book.

The entry in the Bradford on Avon PR/BT book, clearly has the record missing and is visible on the facing page, see below..

This partial image shows the entry is not there..

This shows the entry on the facing page..

So, they look like 2x Elizabeth with different parents, you probably still have the same problem, but at least you know they are different families.

Yes I have seen that Geoff as I said in my original post, I've seen both Catherine and Elizabeth. But the other thing is there are no marriages in the area for Thomas to either Catherine or Elizabeth, only Mary.

I started checking those, no obvious Catherine in Wilts, one marriage [RG4] in 1705 has a Thomas Harris but no named wife?

Will check Elizabeth's next.

Has this been discounted?

1730/1 - 7 Feb HARRIS Elizabeth d Thomas, of Trowle

Yes I think that is probably it. But the next thing is a marriage, I'm guessing it will be one of the Mary's. I just hope he has nothing to do with the ones in Bradford on Avon
