Thanks Val.

That confirms the connection to Kensington St but does not solve the puzzle.

Susan is a sister to the Margaret who married Thomas Joyce. Margaret is the 4th daughter on the shipping record so if Susan was the eldest Margaret would be the 5th.

I think it rules out James 1855 and rules out Honorah 1878. Neither a good fit for age.

Thanks Val but I don't think that is correct.

Clearly says Margaret is the fourth daughter in the marriage notice but if you add Susan who is an older sister then Margaret becomes the fifth.

Yes, no Susan on the shipping list therefore I think the Margaret who married Thomas Joyce was not the Margaret on the shipping record.

Clearly says they are sisters.

Only details found so far for 1x James and 1x Honora. I've searched again in Trove and nothing found for the other two.

And this RC Rookwood is very curious. No Murtough deaths in index in 1901. No Murtough birth in index 1899 - 1901.

Murtough Annie 1 19/02/1901 SEC*M1*M**397 Burial
Murtough James - 19/02/1901 SEC*M1*M**397 Burial
Murtough John - 19/02/1901 SEC*M1*M**397 Burial
Murtough Honora - 19/02/1901 SEC*M1*M**397 Burial

Nothing in Trove in Feb 1901.

Marriage 368/1856 V1856368 101 REAY MARTIN - MURTOUGH SUSAN - LD= RC St Mary's Sydney

I hope to visit the library next Tuesday and will try to get an image of that one. It will probably not list parents or ages.

No birth in the NSW index and no Assisted arrival for a Susan Murtough.

A bit of a puzzle.

RC Rookwood
Joyce Margaret 66 13/09/1900 SEC*M1*N**194

No other burials in that section that look to fit.

Thanks Val.

We need to sort Susan out. And we need to trace Margaret's younger sisters.

Death MURTOUGH NORAH 484/1875 JAMES - ELIZABETH - SYDNEY

If that one is aged less than 2 years then we have removed one of the 2x Honorah. Still leaves us with 2x James.

FUNERAL.—This Friends of Mr. THOMAS
JOYCE are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral
his late deceased MOTHER-IN-LAW, Mrs. Honora
Murtough; to move from late residence, 41 Kensington
street, on TUESDAY AFTERNOON, at 3 o'clock; to the
Catholic Cemetery, Devonshire-street.

That cemetery no longer exists.

One puzzle solved. The Devonshire St cemetery was ripped up to build Central Station.

Thanks Geoff.

Ok, I ruled one out by age at death but with that death - dau of James junior & Elizabeth - it means I have to ignore age at death for the other.

We still have 2x James who could be James senior.

Have to try and trace these three. Perhaps one is Susan.

Johanna MURTOUGH 18 Templar 1844 Sydney and/or Newcastle
Catherine MURTOUGH 15 Templar 1844 Sydney and/or Newcastle

That's the one Geoff found aged 15/12.

Where is the arrival of Susan?

I can find nothing on Johanna. Wonder if her middle name was Susan ??

Still don't know which death is the correct one for James senior.
