Hello cp,

Death 1882 Elizabeth STEVENSON ( ? ) age 64 Falkirk, Stirling

Age is too far out and other name is not KELTIE or variation.

Looks a probable.

Death 1893 Elizabeth STEVENSON (KELTY) age 78 , Glasgow City

Please see if you can find Elizabeth.

Regards,

Dave

Hi CP and Dave,
I am descended from Elizabeth Stevenson via her second son Robert Stewart. I too had noticed the death entry in 1893 in St Rollox. What I'm more interested in is her birthdate/birthplace and parents name. I could not find a marriage entry for James Stewart (Roberts father, Stewart possibly spelled Steuart prior to 1851) and Elizabeth Keltie. Any ideas?

Hello DrGreg,

welcome to FHUK.

This is part of the puzzle. This is possibly more:

Elizabeth KELTY b. 30 Apr 1813 c. 30 May 1813 Carnock, Fife, Scotland
Alexander KELTY & Janet CURRY
Batch: C114144

If that is the right Elizabeth then I'd look for a marriage in Fife but I can't find one yet.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks for your reply Dave. Her age in 1841 is given as 25, making a birth year of 1815 or 1816 probable. I had found another Elizabeth Kelty born in 13/061819 in Edinburgh to John Kelty and Janet Hood. They moved to Perth prior to the birth of a 2nd Daughter Euphemia in 1828.

Check her age in 1881.

The census are consistent in saying Carnock.

I've looked on three sites including SP and I can't find the marriage.

Thanks Dave, I think I had ruled our the other Elizabeth Kelty because of her whereabouts on the 1841 census (Perth, not with her parents but visiting a friend, no sign of the kids Robert and James). Interesting to see that the Elizabeth Kelty we are interested in had a three year old daughter also surnamed Stewart in 1851, puts the date of separation from James senior at post 1848 but before 1851 (she married John Stevenson on 17/02/1851).

Yes Dave, your right. I have spent a lot of credits and time trying to get a date for James's death. His birth is also problematical. A James Steuart was born on 29/06/11 to William Steuart and Janet Wilson, which would make him 30 for the 1841 census. However, the only William and Janet Stewart I can find in 1841 are living with their adult son, James aged 30. So, unless William and Janet both died before 1841, that James must be the son born to William Steuart and Janet Wilson in 1811. Our James remains enigmatic.
