Ellen Mann's parents were John Mann and Susan Crouch. John Mann's parents were John Simon Mann and Ellen( Eleanor) Goodridge (Goodrich). They were both convicts sentenced to transportation from England. I am away for a few days at present so dates may be a rough guess. From memory John Simon Mann was born about 1804 in London. He was transported on the ship Speke 2 about 1821. He died 1863 at Fraser's Creek near Inverell/Ashford area of NSW. Ellen came out about 1834 as a 14 year old who was found guilty of a crime. She was born in Bath England.
The John Simon Mann who died in Charters Towers was the first cousin of Ellen Mann his father Thomas William Mann was the youngest brother of John Mann and was born in NSW. John Simon and Ellen Mann were married at Port Macquarie. Their three sons were eldest George Mann(who married Susan Crouch's older sister Betsy); 2nd son John Mann ( who married Susan Crouch) and third son Thomas William.
The weddings of George and John were both held on the same day. They were married by Reverend Glennie at School at Drayton Swamp, which is present day Toowoomba . They all headed back to the Inverell/ Ashford area for a number of years. Then moved to Qld, where they lived at Roma and Charleville. Betsy and Susan Crouch's parents John Crouch and Elizabeth Harvey came out as free agricultural workers. Family stories say John Crouch was a bullocky and perished on the Warrego Range near Blackall and Emmet Qld. No one has found a record of his death. There is a John Crouch in the death records for NSW, but is not right John Crouch he is way too young. Elizabeth Crouch nee Harvey is buried in the Mitchell Qld. cemetery. I have proper dates and convict records etc at home, which I can send when I get home. I also have a photo of Ellen Mann as an older lady, plus a newspaper report on her death. Cheers for now Denice Price

These would be the right people. They have Helen instead of Ellen. Reverend Cross is the person who married John Simon and Ellen Mann at Port Macquarie. They had to get permission to marry because they were convicts. John Simon Mann's trade is listed as being a Blacksmith. I just had a quick look on Qld BDM Family History listing's couldn't find a birth for the John Simon who died in 1892 at Charters Towers, but found a listing 15/02/1864 Unnamed Mann Mother Mary Flanigan Father William Mann. May be a birth date and place on his death certificate . I noticed that there were two children for John Simon and his wife Annabella; Annie Elizabeth 08/11/1885 and Thomas William 21/08/1887. Will do some more digging when I get home . Cheers Denice
