Emigration to USA

thanks.julie, his name was Joshua Caleb Gloyn born 1870 runcorn cheshire.
he was a miner. he travelled by himeself. I definitely have his name recorded on the ships passenger list but don't know where to pick up the pieces when he got to USA. Believe it must be Ellis Island where he got off.
He came from the area close to the Cornish Devon border so might well have joined the cornish settlements in Usa. ss "ADRIATIC" carried a lot of workers.

Like Julie, I am unable to find your Joshua Gloyn anywhere but upon his arrival at Castle Garden (the predecessor of Ellis Island) in New York. The U.S. census he would have been most likely to appear on after his arrival would have been the one taken in 1890. Unfortunately, that one was mostly destroyed by fire. I've searched the fragments available on ancestry.com as well as a few state census fragments from around that time but can find no sign of him.
Is it possible he left the U.S. for Canada or elsewhere?

precious, i just did some quick census looks and it looks like they landed in New York and may have picked up a wife and had a bunch of kids and ended up in Montana and this was under a John Gloyn same age. since the 1890 census was burned we just go on to the 1900 census. there was another Gloyn in there too. hope this helps.

apologise for being such a tardy entry to this. I find that I've been trying
this link of the family that it begins to get too hard to stick with. I am not good at searching the USA for info. So it got put to the side until I came back. You mentioned that you found my Joshua Caleb Gloyn in the 1900 census. I would be most interested if there was any support to this. I did know that there was a strong cornish element in Montana early in USA history. He's one of several chiuldren of his family. His father was John gloyn. his mother charlotte. If you think of anything could you let me know?
