Emily Deane

Hi all,
We have been researching the Deane family from Hambleden for many years. One branch of the family moved to Bath. Emily Jane Deane was born in Bath in 1866. her father was James William Deane, carter. She had a son in 1882 and then vanished. We have searched all records everywhere and are completely stumped as to where she might have gone.

Have you traced the son after that? There is an Emily Deane in a Kent asylum in 1891. Have you checked that one out?

Yes we have traced the son. He lived with his grandparents in Bath and lived in Somerset all the rest of his life. We have looked at the Emily you mention but it seems highly unlikely as everyone else was based in Bath.

The Emily Deane in the Asylum was already there in 1881 and had been placed there by Stepney Union so definitely not yours.
Have you checked out the Emily Jane Deane who died in Stroud in Q3 1882? Age given as 19 when your Emily was not quite 17 but perhaps people thought she was older given that she had a baby a few months old?
