It would be good to have more information about this family particularly Confirmation of her parents but I expect that I will have have to get the marriage certificate for that.

Ed,
I believe that Emma's parents were Thomas (a coachman) and Sarah Trodd.
Thomas, I am reliably informed was one of 12 children born to John and Martha Trodd. I am decended from John and Martha's first born son, benjamin Trodd b.1796 a labourer from St Mary extra, Newtown,Hampshire.(Emma's uncle)
Does this mean we share the same Great Great Great Great Grandparents?
(John and Martha trodd.)

Look forward to hearing from you.

Sarah.

Hi,

I have Sarah Maiden name as Freemantle Born in Winchester but I didn't have any of Thomas's siblings or his parents.

The 1881 Census shows Thomas as a retired coachman. The 1861 Census shows him as a coachman in the 1851 Census he is shown as a Gardener and in 1841 he is shown as a labourer.

In the 1841 Census there are two children with the name Freemantle living with the Trodd's I don't know how they are related to the family!

1841 Census Trodd/Freemantle

Thomas Trodd age 39 occ labourer (born 1802?)
Sarah Trodd age 38 (born 1803?)
James Freemantle age 11 (Born 1830?)
Fanny? Freemantle age 9 (Born 1832?)
David Trodd age 7 (Born 1834?)
Ellen Trodd age 4 (Born 1837?)
Emma Trodd age 2 (Born 1839?)

John Trodd would be my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfarther so yes we share (John and Martha Trodd). :D

I have a picture of Sarah's Gravestone from Weston Church she died in 1878 23 Nov.

Many Thanks :)

Ed

Hi ,

Will send you more info tomorrow as it is late.

But, I guess the Freemantle children are Sarah's brother's children. So her nephew and niece.

As for Thomas and Sarah's children, I have David, Ellen, (married name Daniels) Emma, (married name Couzens) Jane b 1841, Frank b. 1843 (married Maria) and Eliza b. 1845.

It's good news to know I have found another member of the Trodd family.
Even if we are very distant cousins.

All the best, Sarah.

Hi Ed,

Sorry, I got it wrong. That's what happens when you guess.

Apparently, Thomas married Sarah Freemantle, (a widow) so the Freemantle children living with the Trodd family in 1841 are Sarah's from her previous marriage.

I have recently made contact with another member of the Trodd family through a different website - Blacksmiths of Hampshire. Her name is Maggie.
She has supplied me with some very useful information.

Sarah.

Hi Sarah,

Do you have a record of Sarah's first marriage or that she was a widow wen she married.

I found the following record on IGI

"1803 Birth
SARAH FREEMANTLE
Winchester, Hampshire, England
Father: THOMAS FREEMANTLE
Mother: MARTHA

Form submitted by a member of the LDS Church. The form lists the submitter's name and address and may include source information. The address may be outdated. Details vary. To find the form, you must know the batch and sheet number."

This is a submitted record so may not be accurate.

The details would agree with the information in the 1851 Census which shows her as Dressmaker born in Winchester.

The 1861 Census shows her as school mistress born St Mary Extra.

They can't both be correct:rolleyes:

Do yo have more information on Thomas' siblings?

Many Thanks

Ed
