Hello all,
Just thought I’d offer this information in the hope there’s new info in here for at least some of you. Much of this was old info for me, as it will be for most of you, but I’ve been scouring Ancestry and other places hoping to find a whole wealth of new data. It hasn’t worked but here are the full John & Martha details which I now have; old and new.
JOHN TRODD: born c1717 in HAMPSHIRE. Married: 5/02/1740 to Martha Bonny in Petersfield, Hants. (Information taken from: Petersfield Marriages - T).
Chldrn: Mary b: 1743. Thomas b: 1745. Martha b: 1747. Elizabeth b: 1748. (Taken from: Petersfield Christenings – T. Transcriptions by: lesleeztreez.com).
JOHN TRODD: born: 1765 or 1767? in WESTON, Hants. Married: 1792 to MARTHA (surname unknown) who was born: 1773. Confirmation and additional info from Maggie (FHUK); who visited the Southampton Archives. No marriages at Jesus Chapel in St Mary Extra 1753-1843; possibly due to a revolt within the Churches. Southampton Archivist stated folk married outside the Church or in the Town square or even never married. Thank you Maggie, all bits of the puzzle are very helpful!
JOHN TRODD: born: 1773 in HAMPSHIRE. Spouse: Martha (surname unknown). For 1841 Census living in Weston, Southampton, but shows John not born in the County. No known record of him for 1851 Census. (John possibly born or married in Warblington, Hants and married c1795).
JOHN TRODD: born: 1808. Baptized: 19/10/1808 in FARNINGHAM, KENT. Parents: John Trodd & Elizabeth (Whitehead).
Married: Martha Cuckow 23/06/1836. For this record John recorded as
Jno Trodd. There is available on record a scrap of manuscript showing the names and marriage date. (Info via Ancestry.co.uk).
JOHN TRODD: born: c1771 in HAMPSHIRE. Married: 22/05/1794 to Sarah Pink (Pinks Family Tree) in Hursley, Hants.
Possibly a 2nd marriage took place 10/4/1812 to Martha Catchelor. Not known if John was a widower, divorced or bigamous at the time. Also not known if it was this John married this Martha or if we have yet another John & Martha couple! Records show this Martha was married in Hursley to a John Trodd born c1771; (this information taken from marriage records via Ancestry.co.uk).
Just a thought: as John and James, as names, are often interchangeable it could be that James & Martha also need to be considered!
Will be interested to see what you make of it all and I will keep searching! There may not be many Trodds but they certainly cause plenty of interest – and frustration!
Gemmas’ pal.
