Hi

Birth Q2 1899
Lee Ena
Grimsby
7a, 657

She is in Hull by 1901 with mother [Margaret b. Scotland] and sibling [Violet b. Hull]. Father [Francis] missing, but is a fisherman, probably at sea. All together in 1911.

Looking for Ena's bap. and anything on parents.

Many thanks
Geoff

1911 gives Francis as Francis William. Says married 16 yrs with 2 children born alive so that is Ena & Violet.
1939 Register has Ena Lee, widow, in Hull, birth date 17 April 1870.

marriage should be 1894 -95 but can't find it in England or Scotland.

Thanks, Elaine..

I'm not sure I understand the 1939 entry yet, as far as I could work out, Ena's mother was a Margaret.

Apologies, that's what comes of trying to multi-task!

Entry for 16 Chamberlain St Hull is:-

Margaret Lee, wid. 17 April 1870
Mary A Stamford, single, 2 Jan 1887, Blacklead packer

I imaging Mary A is a boarder but relationship details are not given.

Sorry again!

There appears to be one hit in Scotland for a marriage of Francis Lee in ScotlandsPeople. 1894 - 1900. 2 hits between 1899 - 1911

There are 12 hits for a William Lee in the same time frame.

I've no credits to view it, sorry.

That Francis Lee married Jessie Lawrie in 1896 so not the correct one.

Just so that no one tries following this, it is a dead end:-

1891 there is only one Margaret, born Scotland, aged 21 living in Hull. She is Margaret Taylor a visitor living with Howell E Lewis, 30 (Congregational Minister) and Mari E Lewis, 23, born Scotland.

I found this couple's marriage, she was Mary Taylor (so I suspected sister of Margaret Taylor). Found the couple in 1901 and 1911, Mary was born on Islay. 1871 census of Scotland I found Mary and Margaret Taylor with their parents on Islay.

So I have identified the only Margaret, born Scotland 1870, living in Hull in 1891, but I still don't have any proof it is the Margaret who married Francis Lee!

Just checked, the Margaret Taylor born on Islay was actually born in 1869, you are looking for a Margaret born 17 April 1870 so Islay isn't correct.

There were 6975 Margarets born in Scotland in 1870 so likely that about 20 share that birthday!

Thanks, Elaine.

Yeah, I checked those stats also.. Anc has 17 Scottish births for the 1870 date, nothing in Islay or named Taylor.

It's interesting that both offspring were reg. as Lee, so you would expect a marriage somewhere. Ena born Grimsby and a year later Violet in Hull, so Lincolnshire a possible favourite

In 1871 were the parents John and Martha?

If so the family is in Wales in 1881..

It's probably a '5' looking at the image.
