Oh. I don't know those in the list of Naturalisations are the same family and arrived together.

We are on EDST now so it's 10:20 here and I'll be off soon.

Hi DaveHam9,

Ernest Louis Meurer died on 27 June 1900 at Pawley Street, Surrey Hills, Sydney. I am Ernest's GG Grandson.

Regarding the other Meurer family, Otto Meurer. This has intrigued me for some time, although the information available to date indicates no relationship i am a little suspicious. There were two Meurer families to arrive in Australia from Germany in the 1850's. Both families (Otto and Ernest's) landed in Sydney and soon travelled to live and work in the NSW north coast region. But so far research has not provided any evidence of the families being related.

Ernest and Augusta arrived in Sydney on the Barque 'Armin' from Bremerhaven, Germany on 19/11/1858. A few days after landing in Sydney they traveled to Grafton NSW to work at a tallow/candle factory.

Hope this information is useful.
I have more details if you are interested, you could PM me.

Cheers
Ocky

Hello Ocky and welcome to the Forum.

Thanks for the information. The family is well off any of my main lines but in my extended tree by this marriage:

4786/1880 WHITEMAN ALBERT - MEURED SOPHIA CATHERINE - RICHMOND RIVER

It will be interesting to see if a connection can be found between the two families.

Dave

Hi DaveHam9,

Thanks for the reply. Thats interesting that you are linked to the Whitemans. I did some research on Albert Whiteman and Sophia Catherine Meurer (my Great Aunty) last year and found that their story is quite interesting. You probably know of the link to that family owning pubs in Casino NSW and particularly the Cecil Hotel that still exists. They built the Cecil, it was relocated to its current position. The restaurant at the Cecil is now called Sophia's after Sophia Meurer who ran the pub after Albert's death. Nice link from the past to the present.
