Hello Steve,

Thank you very much.

Now the seemingly impossible, find a baptism and a marriage for Esther to John Bone RICE. :2fun:

Three sons:

Births Dec 1851
Rice John Scarnell Hoo 5 321

Births Jun 1857
Rice William Henry Medway 2a 308

Births Jun 1859
RICE Edward Medway 2a 330

The chase to prove Charlotte Mary REYNOLDS is the one is over. Now to prove it is Esther.

Regards,

Dave

Son John was on board HMS Ocean in 1871 on China station.

The third Ocean was originally ordered to be built as a Bulwark-class wooden screw line-of battle ship intended to carry 91 guns. However, the order was changed and she was eventually launched in 1863 as a Prince Consort-class ironclad of 24 guns. In the late 1860s she served as flagship to the Commander in Chief of the China Station and after an active life of only six years, was paid off in 1872.

Hello GB,

Finally I got a breakthrough and found John's spouse was Esther.

Thank you very much for that one.

Pity his father is so hard to find. I don't know if he ever got above Boatswain or not but Esther is receiving some sort of pension in 1871.

I've looked through THA for marriages that were recorded in case of later pensions and didn't see one for John, senior. I looked though all the different sorts of pensions and again found nothing. Not that I'm very experienced searching TNA.

Regards,

Dave
