Do we have yet another sibling, Jim ?

Note also that Ethel's Memoriam notice to George Herbert (Bert) WARNE is separate from that from the other three siblings.

IN MEMORIAM Queanbeyan Age and Queanbeyan Observer (N.S.W.) Fri 1 Oct 1926 Page 5:
WARNE.-In loving memory of my dear brother, Bert, who passed away October 1st, 1925, aged 21 years.
Long days and nights he born his pain,
To wait for cure was all in vain;
But God alone, who thought it best,
Did ease his pain and give him rest.
Inserted by his loving sister, Ethel Tait.

WARNE.-In loving memory of our dear brother, Bert, who passed away October 1st, 1925, aged 21 years.
In our home your memory lingers,
Sweetly tender, fond and true;
As the years pass on, dear Bert,
We will always think of you.
Inserted by his loving sister and brothers, Ada, Tom and Jim.

If the pattern is true then 'Jim' is of the 2nd marriage and younger than Tom.

I was looking at the 24 Feb 1915 TAIT / WARNE marriage in the town of Delegate:

m/c NSW BDM: 3374/1915; Groom: TAIT, CLIFFORD W. E.; Bride: WARNE, ETHEL M.; BOMBALA DISTRICT

which was reported in the Delegate Argus of Thurs 25 Feb 1915 Page 2.

It's interesting that, other than the groom, there was no-one else called Warne present. There was no reference to the parents of the groom.

As has been previously noted, some references were:

Bride was granddaughter of Mrs. J. Downey of Bendoc (Vic)

Bride was given away by Mr. P. Downey, uncle of the bride.

Miss G. Commons was a cousin of the bride.

I looked at a few NSW and Vic marriage name combinations.

There were no Downey / Warne marriages.
There was an 1887 Bombala, NSW marriage; Wm Commons & Margaret H. Downey.
An 1860 1860 Bombala marriage: Edward Downey & Jessie Leslie
A 1912 Bombala marriage: Neil D. Begley & Jessie Commons
and a 1922 Victorian marriage: Herbert Sinclair Downey & Marion Lillian Leslie.

Could we, perhaps, have a situation similar to Betty Hardacre (née Warne) who was perhaps raised or adopted by the Horner family ?

Thanks Dave,

I was thinking that

"Bride was granddaughter of Mrs. J. Downey of Bendoc (Vic)"

meant that Ethel was the grand-daughter of the wife of a Mr. J. Downey

but as Ethel's wedding was 37 years after the death of Mr. Edward Downey, it makes sense that by the time of Ethel's marriage, her grandmother would have gone as Mrs. Jessie Downey.

Re Ethel's mother (Elspit, Elspeth, Elsie):
b/c NSW BDM: DOWNEY, ELSPIT; 7251/1870; Father: EDWARD; Mother: JESSIE; BOMBALA DISTRICT
d/c Vic BDM: WARNE, Elsie; Father's name: Pat DOWNEY; Mother's maiden name: Jessie (Leslie); Reg. year: 1893; Reg. no: 13201

d/c says Elspeth's father was Pat. I think her father was Edward Downey (1823-1878). Patrick Downey (1774-1861) was her grandfather. She had a brother, Patrick Downey (1877-1938). (What puts those faces on 1878 and 1938?)

This would wrap up the discovery of "Ethel (Mrs. Tait)". Thank you Dave, Bootzy and Horse for your research.

Not the easiest chap to find anything on

From c1958 he was a crane driver in the E/R's before that he was a labourer..

If this is correct we get a birth year...

Victor Odds
Birth Year: abt 1908
Event Place: Redfern, New South Wales, Australia
Event Type: Theft
Publication Date: 14 Sep 1927
Page #: 524

And this..

NSW E/R 1930

Subdistrict: Raymond Terrace
District: Robertson
[On his own. Salt Ash. Labourer]
