What makes you think he was born in Brighton I can't find ny births of that name in Sussex.

From Trove.

A British whaler, named the Eagle, or L'aigle,

was wrecked with 700 tons of sperm oil, after

having been two years out from London, off Tonga

Islands, on the 6th ultimo.. Her officers and crew

have been brought to Sydney by the brig Tran-

mere, which arrived in ballast on Tuesday. Pas--

sengers, Mrs. Henry and child, Messrs Thos. Tup-

pin, James Thomas. ------Powell, 31 seamen, and

three New Zealanders.

I have a copy of his death certificate stating b 1811 Brighton England
No parent names on this certificate .
He married Anna ( Ellen ) Power in Sydney Australia 1843 but I cannot get their marriage certificate or copy due to deteriation and age .
I need any information pre 1825 in England if possible , most /all his papers were probably lost in the shipwreck .
Best Regards

Death certificates can be very inaccurate. I have one with the informant being the matron at the hospital who must have guessed a few things.

I have another where the informant put 'mother' as relation instead of 'daughter' but that was easy to spot.

I asked someone for any information 3-4 years ago Re his and other shipwrecked sailors entry / papers to Australia , I was told in that period 1800s no records were kept .
Information of shipwreck is on Trove for L’Aigle 21 April 1830

Just a note of caution re the Eden/Monaro site - lots of the details are supplied and not verified by the site so some errors exist.
