I think there is a strong possibility that your mother was Burgess at birth but was perhaps married before she met your father. I was at onetime looking for someone whose surname was that of her first husband and I thought that was her maiden name I found these - hope one of them is the right one :)

apr/may/june qr 1908
Elizabeth Hannah Burgess
stockport 8a 93

oct/nov/dec 1908
Frances Burgess
stockport 8a 107

oct/nov/dec1908
Edith Burgess
stockport 8a 45

Hi Truckermac, my G.Father was a Burgess from Altrincham, Cheshire, about 20+ miles away. I have roughly traced the tree to Scotland and Ireland. Hartigan is also an Irish surname so I think you will have a way to go.

Hi

My great grandmother was Catherine Isabella Coombs. She wed George Hart and then George Musgrave. On my grans 1920 birth she said "Catherine Isabella Musgrave, later Hart, formely Coombs" showing her previously married name plus her maiden name of Coombs.
