Dear Pat,

I am researching my friends family tree and found your message on here through google.

My friend is descended from James Bruce born in 1860 in Fife according to the 1911 Census.

His father was James Bruce a Gamekeeper given on his marriage certificate.

I believe you are related to the same family that seem to have come from Largo Scoonie Markinch areas.

James born 1860 named his daughter Dorothea which I believe one of his sisters was called as well.

Could you contact me. This is the first time I have used this site so a tad unsure how it goes yes.

Best Regards
Alan C

You can only email directly, when you have exchanged email addresses by PM(Private Message).

You need to have 3 moderated posts or threads, to be able to send Private Messages.

You're not doing anything wrong at all, it is how the system is set up, to allow private information being shared safely and securely.

Be aware, that the owner of this thread, posted it 3 years ago.

Hi Alan
I had forgotten I had posted here as I don't get any positive information on the Bruce family so its great to hear from you. The message never came up on my pc but i accidentally found it on my phone.

Yes there was a sister called Dorothea Cuthbertson Bruce and she was the twin of Jane Cuthbertson Bruce. I know that Jane married James Walker and they adopted a girl who was called Dorothy or she was born to a Bruce before the marriage. This is unclear at the moment. This lady married a Robert Goodall and had no children.
I have no further information on Dorothea Cuthbertson as she seems to have disappeared from scottish records.

I have James Bruce (Dorotheas Brother) born 1861 and my great grandfather is Robert born 1863. Robert and his wife Mary Swan Davidson lived in Buckhaven where they had 4 sons and 1 daughter.

MaryAnn was born in 1857 at Balgrummie Hothouses and John was born at Kettle in 1855 and was the firstborn.

I do have more information but look forward to hearing from you and some information that you have to match mine.

Hope you find this message soon

Regards

Pat

Hi Pat,

I can fill in some of the information for you.

James Bruce (son of James and Jain Hain) born in 1861 married Ann Clement on 12 June 1886 in Barnstaple Devon.

The had two children that I have found. Dorothea Clement Bruce born in 1889 in Pimlico London and Alexander Bruce born in 1891 in Welham Green Fulham London.

The family moved to Manchester. My friend is descended from Dorothea Clement Bruce.

Her aunty Dorothea Cuthbertson Bruce died in Manchester in 1895. She was buried in St Mary's Church Prestwich in Manchester on 10th August 1895.
