Finding a Date of Birth.

Evening all
Further to my post of 9th April, can anyone suggest how I might be able to find a some kind of documentary record of my G/g/grandfathers D.O.B? My problem is that, on all the census images, he is just shown as, " born Scotland ": and, judging by his " shown age" at the time of each census, all the records seem to agree that the year of his birth was 1817.

However, I really need to find some documentary evidence of just what date he was born in 1817. Does anyone know where, in Victorian England, a persons D.O.B might have been recorded?

Hi Kingfisher,

Sorry for the late reply.

I had a look on family search, about 13 William Mckays/Mackay with father Robert (Scotland) though not with year of birth 1817 (these are probaly only a few). Some are shown as births some christenings. Not all were extracted records some are submitted by members, these need to be treated with caution as they can be just guess work.

Birth, deaths and marriages are recorded in parish registers, as Scottish civil registration didnt begin until 1855 then it will be down to looking through the registers.

Do you have any siblings for him?, this will help in tracking down the parents.

Genuki is a good source of information who have a large collection of genealogical pages. See link below.
